The first article that I read was The Job Market: Is a College Degree Worth Less. I thought it was a well written article and I liked that their were plenty of statistics to back up the authors claims. I agree that due to the increased number of students going to college increases the competition for work. I also agree with the article when the author writes about the fact that it seems more students go on to graduate school to get their masters degree because it will give them an advantage over their job competition.
The second article I read was Should More People Skip College and I enjoyed reading this one slightly more than the first article because I was really interested in what it was saying that although their is a sort of expectation that a student will go to college, the need for college degrees seems to be slightly over exaggerated. I agree that I have encountered many people who do not have jobs that were directly related to what their major was in college but I feel that college degrees are still necessary for people to get to separate themselves from others.
For the NY Times article Plan B: Skip College I enjoyed reading this article the most because I found it to be the most interesting. Not only did the article name still out to me but the content was good as well. Although I found it interesting that educators were telling some students to not go to college I agree that some students would do better in some of the fields that would not require a college degree because in my opinion telling a student to attend college just because would be a disservice to them because they would end up having to pay loans when they were originally best fit for going in a different direction. The main message I got from reading this article is that although it is a good idea for students to attend college, some students would be better of going on to work in a field that does not require them to have a degree.
